HG RX-78 G from Requiem
A good kit for the price

    Posted December 05, 2025

This is a really cool HG, especially for the price. I put it together a couple nights ago, took about 7 hours to finish. I lost my glass file so I had to go back to my old way of using a hobby knife to remove nubs and make things smooth.

I really like the high detail of the kit. I was surprised about the rotating ammo drum for the gatling gun, along with the elastic ammo that goes into it. I mainly chose this kit because of the panel lines and color scheme.

The range of motion that the mecha has is pretty fine, at the waist and foot joint it's a bit limited but the rest of the joints are good. The weapons and accessories are all pretty cool other than the beam saber holder, which I'll get into later.

I did end up having a couple problems with the kit. One of the first ones I noticed was as soon as I opened the package. One of my beam sabers are fucking bent to shit. I was able to somewhat salvage it but it's still bent. This is a problem with other kits I have had with soft plastic sabers.

They do have their upsides like putting them in hot water and being able to bend them to make a dynamic looking swing. I'm thinking of maybe taking that one and turning it into a beam shot for the rifle. I've seen it done plus already have some perfectly shaped spares from other kits if I REALLY want to pose with two sabers.

While putting it together I have the opposite problem with the darkish red parts. They're too fucking hard. This is genuinely one of the hardest plastics I've ever ran into building gunpla. I had to grip my cutter with two hands when cutting the pieces off the runners. I ended up stabbing my fingers TWICE when cutting off the titanium nubs. Since I didn't have my file, I fucked one of the foot pieces trying to cut off some leftover bits. Nobody will notice unless they look closely but I'm still pissed about it.

One of the other problems I have with the kit is the part where the beam saber grips are held on the mech's back has no support. It constantly falls out with the slightest touch, the grip of the beam sabers themselves also fall out a lot. I decided to take my loss and just leave it off. It sucks because it looks sick when it's fully expanded out like a wing.

I experienced some odd balance with the kit because of the feet shape. Like it has no friction on the bottom of the shoe. Besides those things I'm satisfied, most of the issues are relatively small ones other than the mount for the beam sabers. For a 20 dollar HG I'm happy.
